The Inspiration for
’Saying Goodbye.’
My young grandson was going through an emotionally challenging time, so after watching ”The Jungle Book” with him, I decided to use two of the characters, to compare their situation to his!
I told him that Mowgli and Baloo had an incredible bond but couldn't be together anymore; not because they didn't care about each other VERY much but because of they both sadly, needed to live in two different places. He seemed to understand, and I think the storyline helped him to accept that he could move past his sadness (and be happy again) just like the characters in the movie did.
I really felt, at that point, that there was nothing available on the market that could explain that loss was something that happened to all of us at some point, so I decided to write my own story!
It took many years to finally find the time to get the story illustrated and published, but I believed that it should be shared as so many people I spoke to had trouble explaining loss to their children and grandchildren too!
’Saying Goodbye’ is a gentle story that will take children on a journey of discovery. They will learn about the feelings that are associated with different types of loss, and they will see the characters in the book moving forward with their lives after experiencing many different goodbye scenarios. They also learn that their precious memories will remain in their hearts forever.
It's my most sincere wish that my book can now go on to help prevent unnecessary anxiety in children, as they navigate their way through life.
